Every traveler, whether they are an addict or just casual, brings something back from the destinations they visit, a trophy, a memento, something to show off they’ve been somewhere new, something to remind the good and the bad, a souvenir. I’ve heard people collecting art, key-chains, tickets, shirts, and so on. And in order to fit in to the description of what being a traveler really means, I have been chosen by my own souvenir-collecting method.
My trophies have to do with writing and photography (surprise!). It started 3 years ago when I sent the first postcard back home to myself from Vietnam. The idea of sending a note to the future me who’s been back to the everyday routine and most probably has already forgotten all about the Lina-on-the-Road version is intriguing.
Letters and stamps have always been a fascination of mine. These postcards though are more than just that: they are my own little storytellers, I chose them, marked them with my ideas, and sent them on their own trip to find me in the future to tell me a secret I know, but I’ve forgotten. Some of them describe a memory from that particular trip, and some remind me to chill out. But all of them say how much I love Lina.
